Lahore: former captain Babar Azam was invited to improve his striker against Spin and stimulate his overall strike rate to consider for Twenty20 internationals, said coach Mike Hesson.
Babar is the pillar in the stick of the national team in other formats but has not played an international T20 since its tour in South Africa at the end of last year.
The 30 -year -old could not find a place in the Pakistani team for the Asian Cup next month when the management of the team has trusted up -up players such as Sahibzada Farhan.
“There is no doubt that Babar was invited to improve in certain areas around the rotation and in terms of striking rates,” said Hesson about the first -rate striker who has a modest strike rate of 129 in the T20 internationals.
“These are things he works very hard on. But for the moment, the players we have, have done exceptionally well.
“Sahibzada Farhan has played six games and won three prizes for the match player.”
Babar should use the Big Bash League in Australia to improve its 20 strikers and stage a return, Hesson said.
“A player like Babar has the opportunity to play in the BBL and show that he improves in these areas of T20. He is too good a player not to consider,” he said.
Pakistan will start its campaign has a Asian Cup against Oman in Dubai on September 12 before meeting rivals from India at the same place two days later.
