Bajaur imposes 12-hour and three days of fire covers for a targeted operation

A three-day curfew was imposed in the Bajaur district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with 27 locked areas in Mamund Tehsil and blocked roads for a targeted operation, the authorities announced on Monday.

All residents have been invited to stay inside with the authorities warning that violations of the curfew would be at their own risk.

The district administration said that the Mamund curfew would remain in force from 11 a.m. on August 11 at 11:00 am on August 14.

Earlier, according to local sources, hundreds of families had left the region, seeking to get security in other parts of the district and beyond.

To welcome them, the district authorities have canceled 107 public schools and colleges to and install a 450 tents camp at Bajaur Sports Complex.

The district administration had also ordered the elimination of corn crops planted less than 100 meters from the side of the road.

Farmers received a three -day ultimatum to collect their cultures, those responsible citing security considerations behind the directive.

The authorities said that the measures were part of the precautionary measures taken because the situation remained volatile in the region.

Friday, the seventh Tour of the Peace of Bajaur Jirga ended without breakthrough, while the negotiations struck a dead end on a key discord between the two parties.

The two parties raised objections to a particular clause under discussion, resulting in a dead end.

Addressing the media, the member of the peace of Jirga, Sahibzada Haroonur Rasheed, confirmed the dead end and said: “Efforts are underway to resolve the dead end. The Jirga remains determined to play its role in maintaining peace in the region”.

He urged both parties to show restraint and patience during the current process.

“We called on both parties to demonstrate tolerance. They assured us that in the event of a conflict, the civilians will not be injured,” he added.
