Baylor football player Alex Foster killed in the Mississippi shot

A Football from the University of Baylor The player died early Wednesday morning after the police said that he was found in a car with multiple gunshot wounds in his hometown of Mississippi, which said local officials saw a recent increase in violent crimes.

Alex Foster, an 18 -year -old defensive line player, was then identified as the victim of a shootout early in the morning in Greenville.

“We have a heart broken by the unexpected loss of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, a friend and a darling part of the Baylor family”, vice-president and director of athletics Mack B. Rhoades, IV and chef football coach Dave Aranda said in a joint declaration published by the school.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and all those who loved him. In this period of deep sorrow, we draw the strength of our faith and the unshakable love of the Baylor community. Our immediate goal is to support Alex’s family and his teammates through this devastating loss. The memory of Alex will forever be part of the University of Baylor.”

Greenville police spokesperson Major Misty Mew told the Associated Press that the police responded to the information reporting a shooting in a city residential / commercial area shortly after midnight. Once there, they located a man suffering from several ball wounds inside a car. Mew did not appoint Foster as a victim, but the Coroner office of the County of Washington later confirmed his identity at the point of sale.

Foster was transported to a hospital in the region where he died of his injuries shortly after.

Aranda later published a separate declaration on X, saying that the Baylor community had been “devastated” by the death of Foster.

“Alex was a beloved member of our Baylor family, and we were devastated by this loss. In his time in Baylor, he had a lasting impact on us all in the program. Our hearts are broken, and our prayers are with his family, his friends and all those who loved him so deep.”

In response to ball death, the mayor of Greenville, Errick D. Simmons, spoke of the recent “increase” of crimes having an impact on the community.

“In the past few weeks, our community has been deeply shaken by an increase in violent crimes, including several shots, an increase in violent crimes, acts of armed violence and insane murders,” he said in a brief video address. Simmons added that after a vote on Wednesday, the city will implement a curfew in force immediately from 9 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily “until further notice”.

Foster joined Baylor in 2024 as one of the Mississippi Top-20 perspectives and the 69th defensive line player in the country. He did not see any action last season after redrawing his first year.
