Ben Askren speaks a difficult health battle

The former MMA star, Ben Askren, provided an update of health more than a month after being hospitalized for a serious illness which required double pulmonary transplantation.

Askren published a video on social networks on Wednesday from his hospital bed. He said he remembered anything from May 28 to July 2.

“It was like a film,” he said, adding that he had read his wife’s newspaper to catch up with what had happened to him. “I only died four times, where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds.

“But I obtained the double pulmonary transplantation. I got out on the other side. Win a lot of strength. Learning to use everything again. I was on a scale yesterday, 147 pounds. I have not had 147 pounds for 15 years. … So, it was a battle. I don’t remember most.”

Amy Askren wrote last week that her husband had received a donor for the double pulmonary transplantation after falling ill in May.

“What has the most impactful for me is all the love I felt of everyone and it was almost as if I had to be at my own funeral … The outpouring of the love of the wrestling community was simply incredible,” he said. “It was so good. I’m more motivated than ever to restore.”

Askren recently signed with Real American Freestyle – The Hulk Hogan Venture in the hope of popularizing professional freestyle struggle.

The 40-year-old was the NCAA champion in the 170-pound division in 2006 and 2007 and continued to compete for the United States team at the 2008 Olympic Games. He won gold medals at the 2005 Pan American championships and the 2009 world championships.

He made his complete transition to MMA’s fights when he made his debut in Bellator in 2010. He then participated in a championship before taking the UFC.

He beat Robbie Lawler by submission to the UFC 235 before losing against Jorge Masvidal in a high -level fight. In 2021, he fought Jake Paul in a boxing match.
