Benedict Cumberbatch plays Doctor Strange in Marvel Universe and remembers his reaction to a studio surprise last year.
At last year’s Comic-Con panel, his co-star Robert Downey Jr. revealed himself as Victor von Doom.
In an interview with Varietythe British actor revealed he was unaware earlier and texted studio boss Kevin Feige: “‘What is this?’ And then he quickly added, “Okay, what is it?” I mean, well, what is it?
Elsewhere in the interview, he reflected on his approach to the mystical processor, sharing what he learned from Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“I learned a lot from seeing how comfortable and improvisatory they are,” the Academy-nominated actor said. “It’s difficult because you have this huge device around you, but it’s so important.”
He also shared that he bonded with Robert through their shared history of playing different versions of Sherlock Holmes.
“We were gassy at the thought of being the two Sherlocks on set,” he said. “But there was a line of dialogue where someone turned to us and said, ‘No shit, Sherlock.'”
“Well, we took all that meta stuff out. We just said, ‘No, no, no. Better leave that to fan fiction,'” he concluded.
