A spokesperson with the Houston police department The Associated Press said on Monday that a man betting on the astros was “intoxicated” when he sent threats to social networks.

“The investigators spoke with him and he said that he had lost money by betting on the Astros game and that he was frustrated and in intoxication when he was unleashed on social networks,” said the spokesperson. “He apologized and asked investigators to apologize to the McCullers family.”
The Astros hired 24 -hour security for McCullers and his family after declaring that they had received online threats against the team. Astros also contacted MLB security and the Houston police service with these concerns.

McCullers said he had to try to explain the situation to his 5 -year -old daughter.

“People should want us to succeed,” said the father of two children. “We want to succeed, but that should not have a cost for our families, the children of our lives, having to feel as if they are not safe where they live or where they are sitting on games.”
The man at the center of these threats was not identified because accusations have not been filed, police said. ESPN reported that the case remains open.
