Bhoon New JCP member

In an important development, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) approved on Wednesday the appointment of the main lawyer Ahsan Bhoon as a member of the JCP for a two -year term.

The decision was made at a PBC meeting held at the Supreme Court of Islamabad under the chairmanship of Mansoor Usman Awan. The group was followed by central and provincial members of the Council.

The appointment follows the resignation of the former member of the JCP, Akhtar Hussain, who resigned to quote controversies surrounding recent appointments in the higher judiciary. In total, 19 members participated in the voting process.

Bhoon was elected with a majority vote, obtaining 14 votes in favor, while four members opposed his appointment. The lawyer Munnir Kakar has refrained from voting.

Bhoon will represent the PBC for a two -year term in the Commission, which plays a crucial role in judicial appointments across the country.

Sources have indicated that four members – lawyer Shafqat Chauhan, Shahab Sarki, Abid Zuberi and Tahir Faraz Abbasi – voted against the appointment of Bhoon.

Meanwhile, Tahir Faraz Abbasi, who was also a candidate, received only four votes.

According to a press release published by the CBC, 20 members of the Council attended the meeting. Khushdil Khan and Yasin Azad proposed the appointment of Bhoon, which was supported by Hasan Raza Pacha and Pir Muhammad Masood Chishti.

On the other hand, Shafqat Chauhan proposed the name of Tahir Faraz Abbasi, supported by Abid Zuberi. Bhoon obtained the majority vote by a hand demonstration, confirming his appointment from February 26, 2025 to February 25, 2027.
