- The major software update introduces a series of new features
- Practical driving works with second generation R1S and R1T models
- Performance pack customers have also treated a rally mode
Rivian has announced a major software update that will present what it calls “hands -free” by leading to certain models from today.
Nicknamed “improving road assistance”, the system allows drivers to remove their hands from the steering wheel for “prolonged periods” on certain highways in the United States.
Located to compete with Ford Bluecruise and Tesla’s basic automotive automobile packages, it eliminates the tension of driving tasks on monotonous motorway, as long as those of the driving seat are able to take over as soon as the system judges it.
Unfortunately, any R1 model built before 2024 does not present the equipment required to support the new technology, so that the update will only appear for those who have new vehicles.
According to Inside EVS, the CEO of Rivian, RJ Scargen, says that the autonomous driving “of the eyes” will be available on the highways next year.
That said, he noted that additional Lidar sensors would be necessary if the system had to work in urban areas, beyond the simple driving on the highway.
Initiate rally mode
Anyone with a double -engine R1 who also has the optional performance pack will now also benefit from a tailor -made “rally” mode, which will offer “an increased accelerator response and a larger direction on almost all terrains, including ice, mud, dirt or asphalt”.
Ford offered a similar baja mode on its Pick-Up Ranger Raptor, which has essentially transformed it into a delight for dirt from the dunes. Although Rivian does not mention whether traction control is assigned or not in the new mode.
Double engine owners can now also separate $ 5,000 (around £ £ 3,900 / 8,000 in) to unlock the performance pack, which sees performance of standard models +, large or maximum R1 to 665 hp from 533 hp of the standard car.
While some of the updated features are reserved for the most recent or most powerful trucks, Rivian has also improved the property experience for everyone.
The size of the wheels can now be configured in the vehicle menus, which makes the beach estimates more precise, while the mirrors automatically bow when the retro-price speed is selected to prevent rashes.
There is also an improved tire pressure monitoring system and a practical chime which informs distracted drivers when the upcoming vehicle moves away from a stop fire or traffic jam.
