Bilawal calls for the derogation of electricity bills for Punjab farmers

The president of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, said that he would call on the federal government to give up electricity bills for farmers and people affected by floods, while he visited the areas struck by the punjab floods on Monday.

Addressing Muzaffargarh journalists, Bilawal said that an agricultural emergency was necessary to support farmers hit hard by devastation.

He made the suggestion to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to use the Benazir income support program (BISP) to distribute financial compensation to flood victims.

Bilawal said that during these previous moments, such as the floods that took place during his mandate in the PDM government in 2022 and even during COVID, BISP was used as a means of helping people.

He also urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request international aid and called on the United Nations agencies operating in Pakistan to contribute to help and rehabilitation efforts.

The president called for political unity, urging all parties to reserve differences to meet the crisis. However, when he is pressed by journalists on the shortage of boats, life jackets and flood camps, he offered no concrete response, only saying that the state was doing its best in the face of an unprecedented disaster.
