Bilawal gives titles of houses to flood victims

President of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, went to several villages of Kot Ghummad Tehsil-Waghreeji Kolhi para, Ghulam Mustafa Leghari on Friday and in the village of Khenbri in Shujaabad Tehsil, where he experienced families affected by floods. He also distributed ownership documents to residents, especially women.

Speaking on occasion, Bilawal congratulated the beneficiaries and said that the Sindh government had provided them with solid and secure houses so that they no longer suffer during floods or heavy rains as in the past. Addressing present women, he said:

“We give you not only a house, but also property rights in the field and the property, in your names. At the house of a flood victim called Lachman, Bilawal sat on a floor mat and discussed with the young son of the family, Bhagwana, asking him how he loved his new house. Bilawal personally has given legal ownership documents to women and reiterated that the houses and land that now belonged to them. He expressed his pleasure to see how families had decorated and painted their houses from the inside.

“I came here specifically to see how you have rebuilt and embellished your houses. We have already built many houses and will continue to do more so that people are not confronted with housing problems in the future,” he added.

In a house, a woman, surmounted by joy, told Bilawal: “We have never seen you on television that you are in our house. We cannot believe it!” Bilawal replied warmly: “You endured difficult days. We promised that we would build a house for you, and today I am here to keep this promise.”

Taking the son of the woman’s wife, Dilip, he said: “This house is legally to you now. I hope that one day you send it to your son when he is big.”

During the visit, Bilawal interacts informally with the residents, admired their home decorations and greeted those who had painted their house themselves. He said: “We hold the promise of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto-‘roti, Kapra Aur Makaan and also our commitment to empower women.”

Addressing a large gathering of women in a neighboring marquee, Bilawal said that his mother was the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, and the PPP thinks that women should have equal economic force as men.

“Before the Sindh popular housing program, only two percent of the Sindh houses were recorded in the names of women. This is why we build the largest housing program in the world – 20 Lakh Houses – where property titles are issued to women.

He thanked the women for their longtime support for the PPP, adding that this is due to their confidence that the party has been able to work for the inhabitants of the Sindh, in particular the well-being of women.
