The developer of Bitcoin Senior Jon Atack was arrested in Salvador during the weekend following a dispute with a neighbor, causing a wave of online concern before being released about an hour later.
Atack, who contributes to Bitcoin Core, posted on the microblogging X platform that the police confiscated his phone and passport, cutting him out of the outside world and supplying fears in the crypto circles.
The police initially told him that he could be sent to a neighboring prison, although he avoided this result.
The altercation seems to be linked to a disagreement on property problems rather than on the work of Crypto of Atack. Stacy Herbert, director of the El Salvador National Bitcoin Office and supporter of President Nayib Bukele, said the neighbor of Atack accused him of “violence against women”.
Under the 2012 law of El Salvador known as Vida Libre by Violencia para las Mujeres (Leiv)which translates directly into “lifeless violence for women”, violent speeches and threats against women are criminal offenses.
Atack was released a few minutes after being handcuffed, describing officers as “professionals and friendly”. He thanked the supporters online, saying: “It was the first time that I had made wrists and that God also wants the last time.”
