- Developer Activision revealed what awaits us for the third Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 season
- Major multiplayer additions include a series of new maps and many new weapons
- It will launch on April 2
Developer Activision has lifted the curtain on what’s coming to multiplayer in the next season of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 when it comes out on April 2, and it’s going to be full of glorious Black ops nostalgia.
Five multiplayer maps will be available from day one: Beacon, Abyss, Plaza, Gridlock and Mission: Trident. First up, Beacon is a brand new mid-sized map set in an isolated snowy region, centered around a frigid guild facility dotted with shipping containers for cover and offering a mix of indoor and outdoor settings.
Abyss is a much smaller environment, taking place entirely inside a submarine. This is a long rectangular card that closely resembles the excellent Bullet card from Black Ops 6 (which took place on a high-speed train). It seems much more cramped than Bullet, however, with narrow corridors and numerous obstacles to navigate.

Then there’s Plaza, another mid-sized map and remaster that returns from Black Ops 2. Like the original map, it takes place in a nightclub in the Colossus Resort from that game’s campaign, which also appears in a ruined state in the existing map. Black Ops 7 Colossus card.
The throwbacks don’t stop there, with the first-ever Gridlock remaster of Black Ops 4 arriving the same day. This one follows the aftermath of an armored truck heist gone wrong on a busy Tokyo highway, and given the importance Black Ops 7 features Japan as a setting, it makes sense to bring it in.
Rounding out the initial offering is Mission: Trident, a new 20v20 map for the massive skirmish game mode featuring a massive port and its surrounding warehouses.
An improved arsenal
Season 3 Reloaded will then add even more with the small spa-themed Onsen map and a remaster of Summit. Black Ops 6Hacienda’s version is also being ported, with some small changes to the vineyard layout to accommodate Black Ops 7Improved movement abilities.
There will also be an interesting new mode, Freerun, which will have its own dedicated map called Ascent. As the name suggests, Freerun is all about parkour and doesn’t appear to feature any combat, with players instead competing to reach a set finish point in a race.
It wouldn’t be a new Call of Duty season without new weapons and accessories either. Launch highlights include the addition of the MK35 ISR Assault Rifle and VST SMG, followed by the Strider 300 Sniper Rifle and the legendary 1911 Pistol in the Reloaded update. A mid-season event will even allow you to unlock a strange energy weapon, the Siren, which fires large electrical projectiles capable of passing through multiple players. There will also be another event that will reward you with a new katana for melee.
All of these come with a paid battle pass filled with neat skins and a revamped Blackcell tier that now offers its own exclusive challenges. You can find out everything, as well as upcoming content for Warzone, Endgame and Zombies, on the official website. Call of Duty blog.
Black Ops 7 is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S and Xbox One.
