- Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 The first season arrives December 4
- This is shaping up to be one of the biggest updates in the series’ history.
- It adds a bunch of new maps, weapons and more for each mode
The first season of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been revealed, and it’s one of the biggest updates in the series’ history.
Set to release next week on December 4, it brings a wealth of content to all of the first-person shooter’s main modes.
This includes four day-one multiplayer maps: the all-new Fate, Utopia, and Odysseus, plus a remaster of fan-favorite Standoff from Black ops 2. These will then be followed by a festive version of Hijacked and, subsequently, a brand new Japanese-inspired map called Yakei and a remaster of Meltdown, still from Black Ops 2.
If all that wasn’t enough, Fringe, a card from last year Black Ops 6, will also be introduced.
Out of all these cards, Fate and Yakei are by far the most interesting to me. Fate takes place in a twisted version of Menendez’s iconic Nicaraguan hideout from the Return Operations 2 campaign complete with a floating island and giant machetes sticking out of the ground.
It’s incredibly nostalgic, but with a surreal touch that, in my eyes, makes it one of the coolest cards in the series so far.
Yakei has an equally strong artistic direction that makes me want to dive into it. Set on the rooftops of a futuristic Japanese city, it’s bathed in neon lights and flashy billboards with plenty of ledges that look perfect for parkour.
Accompanying this map series is a selection of new modes, including the return of Prop Hunt, One In the Chamber, Sharpshooter, Gun Game, Takeover and Sticks & Stones.
During the holiday season, there will also be two limited-time “Codmas” modes: Snowfight and Holiday Havoc.
A barrage of new weapons will also arrive throughout the season, including the Kogot-7 SMG, Maddox RFB Assault Rifle, Sokol 545 LMG, NX Ravager Crossbow, Ballistic Knife, Sturmwolf 45 SMG, and Hawker HX Sniper Rifle.
There will also be new attachments to earn, including a particularly spooky one that lets you use the ultra-rapid-firing Akita shotguns on the hips.
Endgame gets a mega content boost
The campaign’s cooperative Engame mode, which was recently made available to all players regardless of campaign progress, is about to get even bigger thanks to four incredibly strange new world events.
In ‘Colossus of Avalon,’ high-level players will need to take down one of the giant mechanical robots we’ve previously seen walking menacingly through the backgrounds of Black Ops 2 Zombies maps.
There will be another new boss in the “Wraith Wing” global event in the form of a giant VTOL that stalks squads. Rather than focusing on a single large boss, “Toxic Tyrant” will challenge players to defeat waves of powerful enemies unleashed by a deadly bioweapon roaming the world.
Publisher Activision is also teasing another global event, but we’ll have to wait and see what it is.
For more experienced players, a new exotic skill system will provide the opportunity to further upgrade your character with special abilities by completing these world events.
Zombies is getting bigger and much more
The new Astra Malorum map highlights the wealth of additions coming to Zombies with its own new enemy types, wonder weapons, traps, and main quest to dive into.
Survival mode fans also get a new environment in Exit 115, which takes place in the Reba’s Diner area of the existing Ashes of the Damned map.
I’m only scratching the surface here, as all of this comes with new challenges, camouflages, limited-time events, and much more.
Big changes are coming to free-to-play War zone component also, namely in the form of a new resurgence card and two Black ops 7-Thematic points of interest appearing in Verdansk.
