- Magnetar announces two new 4K Blu-ray players
- The two players are the UPD900MKII and UDP800MKII
- Magnetar is the second company to announce new players this year after Sony
At Cedia Expo 2025, Magnetar revealed that it brought two new Blu-ray 4K players on the market, the UDP900MKII and UDP800MKII.
Referred that the MKII series, the new players are successors of the magnetar UDP900 and UDP800, the latter is our current choice as the best option for the audiophiles of the Techradar guide for the best Blu-ray 4K players.
The UDP900MKII and UDP800MKII arrive with a stacked list of features: SACD, Dolby Vision and HDR10 + High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Dolby Atmos and DTS: X Audio format.
Magnetar players stand out for their improved audio performance, and the MKII series is no different. The UDP900MKII offers Dual ESS 9038 PRO DACs and a dedicated HDMI audio port. It also has USB XMOS playback and supports up to 768 kHz PCM and high resolution DSD 512.
The UDP800MKII has seven AMP OPA1602 for reduced noise and HDMI jig, and improved EMI armor. A redrawn chassis also means more stable performance, including quieter disc readings, depending on the company
The two players are delivered with RESB 3.0 ports redesigned for improved performance with connected devices, and both are ready.
The UDP900MKII and UDP800MKII should both arrive in the United States by the end of 2025, at a price at $ 3,299.99 (approximately £ 2440 / $ 5,050 in) and $ 1,799.99 respectively (approximately £ 1,330 / £ 2,750). Information on availability in other regions has not been provided in the company’s press release.
Good news for 4k Blu-ray
Here’s something I didn’t have on my Bingo 2025 card: not one but two Brands that publish new 4K Blu-ray players. Sony launched things earlier this year, publishing a “new” version of its 4K UBP-X700 Blu-ray player, called UBP-X700K. The only real difference between the two players on paper is, however, that the network support has been deleted in the new model.
Magnetar also heard the call, publishing his own new players in the new MKII series. On paper, the MKII series has undergone serious hardware upgrades which should ensure its domination as the best 4K Blu-ray audiophile option. But, above all, we have two new Players Blu-ray 4K!
While the MKII series is at the premium end of the Blu-Ray 4K players market, this is always excellent news for 4K Blu-ray fans after a few difficult years, with LG announcing its departure from the market of Blu-ray players, followed more recently by Reavon-leaving Sony, Panasonic and Magnetar as the only major choices (other than the two next channel games).
The retailers also abandon sales of Blu-ray 4K records (although Best Buy recently introduced an online market Blu-ray 4K) even if the big films continue to obtain 4K disk treatment from outfits such as the collection of criteria and the Arrow video. Heck, we even started our own Blu-ray 4K functionality called Blu-Ray Bounty in November due to the continuous popularity of the format.
Two new Magnetar Blu-ray 4K players are excellent news, and as a Blu-ray 4K fan, this gives me hope for the future of the format.
