The body of Melodee Buzzard, 9, missing from Southern California since early October, was found in another state.
However, the case took a shocking turn when his mother, Ashlee Buzzard, was taken into custody.
Melodee’s remains were discovered earlier this month, apparently in Utah, as reported BNC.
Based on extended absence records from school, authorities believe she has been dead since at least October.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a press conference for Tuesday, December 23 afternoon to announce “major developments” in this case.
Prior to the announcement, deputies were seen handcuffing his mother from her home in the village of Vandenberg.
She was also arrested in November on suspicion of false imprisonment, but those charges were later dropped.
Authorities report that she was uncooperative throughout the search for her daughter, making her even more suspicious.
The highlight of the investigation was the road trip that the mother and daughter took from October 7 to 10, from California to Nebraska.
Security footage from a car rental agency showed Melodee wearing a wig, which detectives believed she wore to disguise her.
Authorities also note that she swapped several license plates during the trip, returning to Lompon alone without her daughter.
