The body of a 23 -year -old Pakistani man who died when he underwent cancer treatment in India arrived in Karachi after a delay caused by an air error, officials said.
Aryan Shah, a Quetta resident, had received treatment for several months in Chennai before died last week, according to local media.
He had traveled to India with his parents for medical care.
After his death, Shah’s mother called on the chief minister of Balutchistan, Sarfraz Bugti, because the family could not afford the repatriation costs.
Bugti organized financial support and coordinated with the Pakistani Embassy in India to facilitate the process.
Shah’s parents went to Karachi with the coffin via an international airline.
However, when they arrived, they learned that the body had been wrongly left to Colombo, Sri Lanka.
“I received the body of my Colombo son,” Shah’s mother told journalists.
“The Indian government or the hospital has not helped to move my son’s body.”
The Pakistani authorities contacted the airline, which arranged to pilot Colombo’s body in Karachi. The coffin arrived on Wednesday.
Quetta officials confirmed that the family was carrying the body to Quetta by ambulance. They left Karachi on Wednesday evening and should arrive early Thursday morning.
