As artificial intelligence advances on a large scale, Vince Gilligan, best known for directing Breaking Bad, doesn’t seem to be a fan of it.
This explains the credits of his new show that he is directing, Pluribus: “This show was made by humans. »
“I hate AI. AI is the most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine in the world,” the filmmaker told Variety.
The director continues: “I think there’s a good chance that it’s all bullshit. It’s basically a bunch of centibillionaires whose biggest goal in life is to become the world’s first billionaires. I think they’re selling a bag of steam.”
Despite this, Vince says he is not afraid of AI as it is gaining ground in the industry. “My toaster oven isn’t suddenly Thomas Keller because it heats up a delicious pizza for me.”
“But its sci-fi brain buzzes at the looming threat of the singularity, or when AI develops true sentience that has its own soul, and therefore its own identity.”
“If they ever get there, then the whole discussion of slavery will have to come back to the forefront of the conversation,” Gilligan says. “These trillionaires are going to want to make money from this thing that is now conscious.”
“Is he a slave then? At this point, he’s a truly sentient being, and these assholes in Silicon Valley are going to monetize this against their own will, aren’t they?” Vince concluded.
