The Brewers of Milwaukee have become the first MLB team this season to win a place in the playoffs after a 9-8 victory against the Cardinals of St. Louis.
Before celebrating in the locker room, the late the legendary Bob Uecker, recipient of the Ford C. Frick Prize and member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, was at the center of the moment.
Manager Pat Murphy told his “Brew Crew” that he had received a “letter today from UECK”. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the letter had been given to Murphy by the owner Mark Attanasio, although it was described as a “tribute to Uecker”, which makes it not very difficult if the broadcaster really wrote it.

The message had an additional meaning for a group that celebrated the last place in the playoff series with Uecker in the clubhouse. Uecker died in January at 90 years of age.
“Howdy, the boys. Never a doubt, you will get this invitation,” read Murphy in the newspaper in a video published by the Brewers on X. “You did it by believing. You really miss guys, and I would have liked to be there.

“You have spoken to the big guy. You play hard every night. You are not afraid to play for each other. He is obviously very interested in the group with this unusual goodness … The fact that you have the best baseball record and the best road record in the attention. I know that you really don’t need me, but I have it to tell you, I will make it light.
After reading, Murphy raised a glass to Uecker.
“Toast to him and our team and what we have achieved so far,” he said.

The Brewers were not only a surprise this season, but a power of the national league while the playoffs are closer with only a few weeks of the regular season. They have the best MLB record at 91-58, and although they have made the playoffs in the past seven of the last eight seasons, they have always been in the first place in the World Series since 1982.
Uecker broadcast for the Brewers of the years before this World Series race, starting his career in 1971 and keeping his helmet until 2024. He also acquired global recognition for his roles in the films of the “Major League” and on the sitcom “Mr. Belvedere”.
Uecker fought against lung cancer and died on January 16. Throughout this season, the Brewers have brought a patch on their jerseys to honor its contributions to the organization.
