RAWALPINDI:
A newlywed girl, married barely two months ago, was shot dead, while her husband was found injured in Banian area of Chak Beli Khan Road under the jurisdiction of Rawat police station on Saturday. The police opened an investigation.
According to police, Suleman reported that Muhammad Rehan left on a motorbike with his 21-year-old wife, Tayyaba Bibi, to collect medicine from a local healer in Basali, but did not return. During the search, the motorcycle was found abandoned on the road. Nearby lay the body of Tayyaba Bibi, while Rehan was discovered some distance away in an injured state.
Rehan told police that Shakeel and his accomplices opened fire, killing his wife and injuring him. After receiving the report, Rawat SHO Inspector Zahid Zahoor, along with a police team, arrived at the spot, collected evidence, shifted the body for post-mortem and shifted the injured man to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had married two months earlier and that before the marriage, the deceased was allegedly engaged elsewhere.
Police found traces of two bullets hitting the motorcycle. The woman was shot in the head, while Rehan only suffered a blunt head injury, further deepening the mystery surrounding the incident.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice of the matter and ordered Saddar SP Anum Sher to reach the spot immediately. The SP visited the spot and police officials said investigations were underway from all angles. Those responsible will be arrested and brought to justice.
