Britney Spears has spoken to her mother and two sons following her arrest for drunk driving earlier this week, with those close to her now rallying around the singer following what sources describe as a deeply emotional night.
According to TMZLynne Spears called her daughter as soon as she heard about the arrest, with the conversation between the two described as “positive” and “hopeful.”
Britney also spoke to her sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, after they were released from prison Thursday morning, although she has yet to see any of her family members in person.
Raising awareness comes at a particularly difficult time.
Spears was arrested near the Borchard Road off-ramp in Newbury Park in Ventura County on Wednesday around 9:28 p.m. after officers allegedly saw her driving her black BMW “erratically at a high rate of speed.”
She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol, and an insider said Page six that officers also found an unknown substance inside his car at that time.
The results of his chemical tests remain pending and the investigation continues. She was released at 6:07 a.m. Thursday.
Sources paint a picture of a woman who was visibly upset throughout the process.
Spears was ‘crying and in tears’ during her booking, according to Page six.
“She was incredibly emotional,” a source told the outlet. “It’s been a very difficult few months.” The same insider said Spears “felt ashamed and embarrassed” and was “very sorry” for what happened.
“She doesn’t want to disappoint anyone, including her fans. The last thing she wants is to be publicly judged again.”
His manager, Cade Hudson, was blunt in his public statement, calling the incident “totally inexcusable” while expressing hope that it could mark a turning point.
