Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, underwent a medical examination at Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi after she complained of pain in her right eye, prison sources said. The Express PK Press Club on Sunday.
Authorities said she was examined by Dr Muhammad Arif Khan, head of the ophthalmology department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Prison sources said she had blurred vision in her right eye and also reported headaches.
Doctors prescribed eye drops and other medications and advised a number of precautions. A follow-up examination has been recommended in four weeks, the sources added.
In late January, Imran also underwent minor eye surgery. Five days later, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said PIMS doctors re-examined his eyes and, after obtaining his written consent, carried out a minor medical procedure that lasted about 20 minutes.

Amid growing concerns over Imran’s eyesight deteriorating in detention, the Supreme Court took up the matter following a report submitted by the former prime minister’s lawyer Salman Safdar. Acting as amicus curiae, Safdar reported that Imran had lost 85% of the vision in his right eye and expressed his dissatisfaction with the medical facilities available at Adiala Prison. The report notes that the former prime minister had requested urgent access to specialist doctors.
Earlier in March, another medical examination was conducted at Adiala Prison, following which PIMS said Imran showed significant improvement in his vision after his second dose of intravitreal anti-VEGF injection.
Imran has been in custody since August 2023 and is serving a sentence in Adiala Prison in a £190 million corruption case.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced on December 20, 2025, to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-II case, which involves allegations that the couple illegally kept a Bulgari jewelry set gifted by the Saudi crown prince during an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
They were convicted under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs164.25 million on each of them.
