Bybit loses $ 1.5 billion in hack but can cover the loss, confirms the CEO

The cryptocurrency exchange scholarship experienced a value of $ 1.46 billion in “suspicious outings”, according to the blockchain Sleuth Zachxbt.

The portfolio in question seems to have sent 401,346 ETH ($ 1.1 billion) as well as several other marked ether iterations (steth) to a fresh wallet, which now liquidates methamphetamine and steth on decentralized exchanges, Etherscan shows. The portfolio has so far sold about $ 200 million in steth.

The CEO of Bybit, Ben Zhou, wrote on X that a pirate “took control of the specific Cold Seth portfolio and transferred the whole ETH to the cold portfolio to this unidentified address”.

“Please rest assured that all the other cold wallets are secure. All withdrawals are normal,” he added.

“My sources confirm that this is a security incident,” added Zachxbt on Telegram.

1.46 billion dollars would be equivalent to the largest cryptocurrency hacking of all time in dollars, $ 470 million lost in the MT Gox hack, $ 530 million in the Coincheck 2018 and 650 million dollars in the ‘Ronin Bridge’s feat.

The BTC and the ETH fell by more than 1.5% and 2%, respectively, after transfers.
