Eli Manning and John Elway had almost company.

A new book details how Caleb Williams apparently tried to avoid being drafted by the Bears of Chicago last year.

Williams and his family consulted lawyers to find an escape in the NFL collective negotiation, while his father told the book author, Seth Wickersham, that “Chicago is the place that the quarter-rear will die”.

Williams himself wondered if he could “do it” with Shane Waldron, who has since been dismissed from his role as an attacking coordinator. His father, Carl, was also concerned about Matt Eberflus (also since letting go of the head coach), and the uncertainty within the franchise, as well as the previous quarters of first round that the organization had selected, retain his son.

“I don’t want my son to play for the Bears,” said Carl Williams. Caleb also told his father that he “needed” to go to the Vikings of Minnesota after meeting them, knowing how improbable it would be.

In fact, the quarterrier has even planned to connect the United Football League from the USC, rather than being the first automatic choice of the NFL.

The details are highlighted in Wickersham’s book, “American Kings: A Biography of the Quarterback”, which is expected to be released in September.

The Bears refused to comment on PK Press Club Digital.

PK Press Club Digital contacted the representative of Williams.

Williams finally remained in the NFL draft, and he was convinced after sitting with Bears in brass that he could succeed. The director general Ryan Polish did not move, and Williams did not want to draw a Manning from 2004, or Elway in 1983.

It was selected by Chicago to be their next quarter of franchise, and fortunately for Williams, some of their concerns – Eberflus and Waldron aforementioned – are no longer in the organization. The former attacking coordinator of Detroit Lions, Ben Johnson, joined the Bears to be their new head coach. It was a decision of which Williams was “extremely excited”, to the point where he even thanked Bears Brass during a telephone call.

“Then, once I took off, I was driving on the highway and I don’t know if it was sure or not, but I gave a strong cry and a cry of excitement,” said Williams. “It brings a lot of clarity to the offseason. It brings a lot of different things to the off -season. I am really excited by the Bears and I can get there. And keep Ben Johnson as a coach for a long time.”

He had a recruited season from top to bottom, in part because of the coach carousel inside the building. He was also dismissed 68 times, the most in the NFL. But in all, he ended up with 20 affected, six interceptions, 3,541 yards per pass and 489 yards on the ground. Its 4,030 yards in total were the most by a quarter of the Bears.

Williams obtained additional assistance in the NFL draft, while Chicago drafted tight Michigan Colston Loveland with the 10th choice in total.
