Clovis, in California, will be the epicenter of the political battle against trans athletes in girls sports this weekend.
The city is expected to host the state athletics championships, which was put under the national spotlight in the middle of a trans athlete who participates in the girls’ category after President Donald Trump called the situation on Truth Social this week.
Dianne Pearce, the mayor of the city, Pro Tem, told PK Press Club Digital that she was actively lobbying Trump for weeks and involved his local responsible colleagues.
“I am in contact with the White House legislative affairs office to see what would be necessary for this community, from the Clovis region to show our support for the efforts of the Trump administration so that California complies with title IX and its [“Keeping Men out of Women’s Sports”] Executive decree, “said Pearce.

Pearce said that his way to involve the White House was to “amplify the voices” of the city’s residents, who only support female athletes who participate in the sports of girls.
Pearce succeeded with this objective, which led to a press conference involving state and local leaders speaking in support of the Trump’s decree and against the Democrats for having allowed Trans athletes to play in the sports of the girls of California before the meeting of the championship.
Pearce says that Trump’s post was an engine factor in driving enthusiasm for the cause.
The press conference presented declarations of Pearce, the trustee of the board of directors of the school district of Clovis, Tiffany Stker, Madsen, assembly of State David Tangipa, which represents the district where Clovis is based, the representative of the American house Vince Fong, which also represents the district where Clovis is based, and supervisors of the County of Fresno Gary Brefel And Nathan Maxson, all speaking in Trump’s support from Trump.
“We must defend what is true and what is right, especially in the fields where biological differences make a difference,” said Stoker Madsen. “What is happening in female sports is false. These female athletes deserve a level playground … I urge Governor Newsom and our California State legislatures to protect the women of California.”
Other residents and local officials, including the mayor Vong Mouanoutoua, stood behind the speakers in solidarity with the pro-Trump position.
While Mouanoutoua and Pearce are both Republicans, Clovis as a city has leaned to the left in recent years, although less left than other parts of the deep blue state. The County of the City of Fresno voted in favor of Trump in the 2024 elections by a margin of 50.9% to 46.5%. However, the county voted the Democrat in each previous presidential election dating from 2008.
Now, the question of trans athletes potentially seems to push the city, or at least its leadership, even further in the corner of Trump. And residents will have an overview of the impact of the number during the title competition this weekend.
The Reunion of the State title will take place at the commemorative stadium of the veterans of Buchanan High School, with the preliminary round on Friday and the final on Saturday. The event should present demonstrators and security.

In Trump’s social position on Tuesday Truth, he said that he “would order the local authorities, if necessary, not to allow the person in transition to participate in the state final”.
Pearce said that she had no knowledge of the communication from the city’s police forces.
“As far as I know, it did not happen,” she said.
A spokesman for the Clovis Unified police department told PK Press Club Digital that he was not aware of any communication with Trump involving security procedures for the event. However, Pearce awaits a vigilant police presence during the event.
“They are ready to make sure that the state championships this weekend are a safe environment for our athletes and their families and those who choose to take them out this weekend,” said Pearce.
Once the competition is at the start, all eyes will be on the Trans athlete, Ab Hernandez from the secondary school Jurupa Valley. Hernandez dominated the length of the girls and the triple jump in the playoff series, taking first place in the two events in the South section finals on May 17 and the state qualifications on May 24.

Hernandez was the subject of a meticulous examination during the dominant race in the athlete’s qualifiers, often being chair by spectators during competitions. Pearce hopes that spectators treat Hernandez with respect during the events on Friday and Saturday.
“I expect people to deal with this athlete compassionate. I think, unfortunately, the failures of adults who have established this policy created this situation. They allowed this particular athlete to be in a position where the controversy surrounds him wherever he goes, and I think it’s unhappy,” said Pearce.
“I do not think that anyone who does nothing to make him dangerous while he is here in Clovis in competition, but again, it is unfair for him to be in the girls’ division.”
Pearce said his “worst scenario” for the meeting of this weekend would be a lack of respect and security for the competitors involved.
“If there is something that is not respectful and calls into question the safety and safety of the environment and the atmosphere, it would be terrible,” said Pearce. “These children deserve better than that. They have already failed by adults at the legislative level and the level of policy by the CIF, I hope that these attendants do not miss them too.”
What Pearce hopes to see is that female athletes emerge victorious in their respective events. However, it is also prepared for more potential benefits of the meeting after helping to summon Trump’s attention to the situation.
Trump’s insistence on the application of his decree has already led a quarrel of several months between his administration and the state of Maine controlled by Democrat. The quarrel resulted in multiple financing gels, which have already been reversed, and a prosecution against the State by the United States Ministry of Justice.
The Ministry of Justice launched an investigation against California this week after Trump’s post, Pearce knows that his condition may very well be online for financing reductions on the issue. In addition, as a civil servant, she knows that it could affect her and her colleagues, but Pearce would fully support any reduction in funding in her state on the issue anyway. For her, it is not a difficult decision to support.
“It is not a difficult decision to come, because more important for me is that our daughters and their spaces are respected and protected,” said Pearce. “If they have to threaten this action -type action, Governor Newsom and the State’s legislature, they were drawing federal state funding, once again, the decision is based on these leaders. They can do the right thing and we don’t even have to talk about it.”
