The California’s interscolastic federation has even made a change to allow organic women to receive first place medals if their position was moved by a transgender athlete.

“It’s really crazy. I get a lot of hatred comments, but I don’t care,” Hernandez told Kcra-TV, laughing. “I am a 16 year old girl with a crazy attitude – Do you think I’m going to care?”

According to the station, Hernandez tried to avoid ramp fires before it was revealed that the athlete has identified as transgender. Hernandez finished third in the final of the girl jumping state in 2024 before winning the event as a junior in 2025. Hernandez also won the girls’ height jump this year.

Hernandez called the demonstrations that followed “weird” and promised to take a criticism page and not to go back from the competition.

“I did what I wanted to do,” Hernandez told the station. “I got into everything, so that’s what I was really aiming to do. All this backlash, I’m just like, I played by Best and that’s all that concerned me.”

It is not clear if the new rules will be implemented in California for next season.

Trump signed the executive decree “No Men in Women’s Sports” in February, prohibiting schools from allowing men to compete in the sports of girls and women. California was one of the five states that saw transgender athletes win medals in the championships during the sports season at the LycĂ©e 2024-25.
