Canon is tilted to fill a long-standing gap in its range of objectives, with an ultra-large first angle angle which could be perfect for astrophotography.
The leaks on the objective are apparently few, but that did not prevent the rumors of canon from speculating on the mystery of the full -frame lens for the camera without cannon mirror – and that could be a first world.
To judge by the response to the post, such a goal could be a great success with fans of cannon and astrophotography. Here is what has been supposed to so far.
A brand new, first world
Canon has launched many superb lenses for its mirror-free cameras, however, ultra-large angle fans are short of options.
There is the F4L RF 10-20 mm five stars is Stm Zoom and a VCM Hybrid RF 20mm F1.4, but no larger premium like the 14mm F / 1.4 of Sigma (for Sony E and L-MOUNT only). It could be about to change.
The most significant detail of this lens is undoubtedly absent in the post of cannon rumors: the focal distance. There is speculation could be a target of 14 mm, or even be as wide as 12 mm.
The leak seems more certain than the maximum opening will be f / 1.4. If it will be a real world lens, then it could not be 14 mm f / 1.4, given the objective of Sigma. However, this could still be, with various qualifications.
Anyway, if this lens materializes, it looks like something completely new for Canon, combining an ultra-large perspective with a shiny maximum opening ideal for low light work, such as astrophotography.
Naturally, a professional L series lens like a 14 mm f / 1.4 will be a breathtaking thing. However, I expected it to be smaller than a DSLR equivalent; Canon has already been able to reduce the size and weight of certain DSLR lenses when making Mirrorless, as the F4L 10-20 mm is STM, which was half the weight of the EF 11-24 mm f / 4L USM.
And although Canon recently concentrated its efforts in the hybrid VCM objectives designed for photo and video work, the feeling is that this first ultra-fast overview will be a STM lens, better equipped for photography.
Such an objective is one of the most requested cannon photographers, who, hopefully, will not have to wait long.
