We have been following rumors of a new compact canon and this camera – the Powershot V1 – has just been unveiled on the Canon Japan website for some time.
Canon’s latest PowerShot is mainly a compact vlogging camera, and on paper, it looks like a Sony ZV-1 II rival. It has a target of 16 to 50 mm F2.8-4.5 and a new stabilized 22.3 MP sensor which is essentially the same size as Micro Four Thirds, except for its appearance ratio 3: 2 narrower.
Users are equipped with a 4K / 30p video and a C -LOG color profile, or 4K / 60p with a heavy crop of 1.4x – but the latter should not be a problem given the Ultra-large perspective of the 3.1x 3.1x lens optical zoom.
There is also an integrated 3 -point ND filter, image stabilization ports in the 5EV body, micro and headphones, plus record times with a heat limit that starts at 25 minutes, but which can Be extended to unlimited with integrated fans integrated cooling in action.
Photographers will not find features such as an integrated viewfinder or flash, but that does not mean that they should ignore the Powershot V1 because it has incredibly powerful photo features. This includes the breakdown at rates up to 15 images per second with the mechanical shutter (which is incredibly fast – only a handful of cameras can go so quickly using a mechanical shutter), or up to 30 images per second with the electronic shutter.
Overall, the Powershot V1 has a solid functionality of functionalities in a compact body with a comfortable handshake, and this is where I think it will be a success: this is probably the price of the list. At the time of writing the editorial staff, we only have 148,500 Japanese yen, which converted to around $ 990 / £ 785 £ / $ 1,550 at – It is quite competitive by considering the features on board.
Could the Canon Powershot V1 be the only compact camera to govern them all?
From the compact Sony ZV-1 II to the Dji Osmo pocket stabilized Gimbal 3 and the Fujifilm XM-5 / Nikon Z30 mirror, vlogging cameras of less than $ 1,000 are not lacking. And it is on this market in which the Canon Powershot V1 intervenes.
We have not yet tested the Powershot V1 of stacking features – it is planned for a launch of April / May 2025 – but on paper, it looks super impressive, and it is likely to enter the market at an attractive price that I expect to do it very popular.
Its stabilized sensor is larger than the type of 1 inch used by the competitors of Sony and DJI, while users always appreciate the convenience of an integrated lens that you do not get with mirror -free cameras such as the Nikon Z30 .
And its image creation capacities are supported by what looks like a complete user experience for video; Image stabilization in the body evaluated up to 5EV, an integrated ND filter, a cooling fan, a microphone and helmet ports and a hotshoe for accessories such as external flashguns.
At 15 oz / 426g with an inserted card and battery, the Powershot V1 is a little heavier than what I expected, but it is the full idea of the package for video users who also want a tool Very competent photography.
We will not fail to execute our expert expert exam as soon as the camera is available to develop our verdict, but even at this early stage, the Powershot V1 seems ready to disturb our best vlogging cameras guide.
