- Windows 10 prolonged support offer is running
- A few people do not see it, however – me including
- Microsoft said the deployment was “slowly” but that it will be available for everyone before the end of Windows 10 life in October 2025
If you run Windows 10 and hope to obtain prolonged support for the operating system to avoid having to go to Windows 11 in October 2025, you may be wondering exactly where this assistance is.
Although it was officially deployed, a month ago in a limited form, Windows the last reports that the Extfelt Security updates program (ESU) has not yet reached many people.
The button to launch the registration assistant that allows you to register for the diagram – which can be done for free, as you may have seen – should appear in the Windows Update panel. However, some good people – including the latest Windows players – just don’t see this button, so they can’t register.
The technological site has contacted Microsoft on this subject and was informed by the company that the registration assistant actually takes place – as has been officially announced recently – it’s just that it happens “slowly”.
You can’t do anything to encourage the button to appear in Windows Update; Just wait.
Analysis: apparently cautious deployment
I always perform Windows 10, and I plan to take the offer of prolonged support (for reasons that I discussed in depth recently), but I have not yet seen it on my PC. There are reports dispersed on various online forums of people wondering where the offer is, so it seems that the deployment is prudent and slow, as Microsoft indicates.
The good news is that Microsoft assured Windows the latest that the registration assistant will arrive on all Windows 10 PCs before the end of the older operating system, which is in mid-October 2025. So, it’s just a case to be patient, although personally I prefer not to leave the program before the last minute.
Hopefully Microsoft will launch the deployment of ESU in a high speed with the next big update for Windows 10, which arrives on September 9, 2025. We will see, and maybe the bugs in the Wizard were part of the problem here – there was a notable problem where the registration process was failing for some people, a problem that Microsoft has solved the week before the last.
Meanwhile, as Windows highlights the latest elsewhere, Microsoft intensifies its Nags in full screen displayed to Windows 10 users, urging them to Windows 11, from the last August update. These are pop-ups that have been seen before, and it is likely that they will be dismissed next month and when October will take place, when support is cut for those who have not signed up for ESU.
I will take advantage of the free option for extended updates, which requires synchronizing the PC parameters in OneDrive, because it is something that I already do anyway. For those who prefer not to do it – and remember, these are only your Windows settings, not your files and synchronized data – they can always pay $ 30 (or equivalent in their currency) to reach ESU (which was the only option initially).
A third route is to collect 1,000 Microsoft reward points, provided you have accumulated so much.
