- Capcom Resident Evil Requiem I just received a new short film starring Maika Monroe
- It shows the story of a mother and her child during the Raccoon City outbreak.
- The end of the trailer could announce the return of a major character
Resident Evil Requiem is less than a month away, with a launch scheduled for February 27, and Capcom has stepped up its marketing efforts – this time with an unexpected trailer.
Capcom has released a new live-action short film titled “Evil Has Always Had A Name” featuring It follows And Long legs actress Maika Monroe. It’s the story that follows a mother and her child before, during and after the Raccoon City outbreak.
There are several Easter eggs in the trailer, namely the silhouette of Resident Evil 3‘s Nemesis hidden in the smoke and the classic ‘STARS’ vocal line in the background. We also have the Gun Shop Kendo briefly shown during the night of the outbreak, as well as a licker, which appears to lead to the heartbreaking demise of the protagonist’s daughter.
Most importantly, we see the same photo of Raccoon City Crater that has been in almost everyone’s eyes. Requiemtrailers. Assuming it takes place in the present day (or close enough), Monroe’s now-zombified character gives a monologue declaring, “tell them I was still me, until the end” before being killed at his daughter’s grave site.
Zombies can be sentient in Requiem
It might be better to use the term “zombie” loosely. While the infected we saw Resident Evil Requeim are clearly not human, director Koshi Nakanishi emphasized that each retains elements of their human personality, even engaging in the same daily tasks as they would while alive, with few speeches.
However, this short may have only hinted at the undead in Requiem being more sensitive than we thought, perhaps fully aware of what is happening, retaining memories and feelings, but without the ability to control one’s infection.
This won’t be the first time the franchise has tried something like this: Resident Evil 4 featured enemies controlled by the Las Plagas parasite, but still retained human traits (even if they were savage and violent).
Requiem seems to be taking a similar path, but one that will touch the hearts of gamers, if this short film is to be believed.
Was it Ada Wong at the end?
There is still so much we don’t know Resident Evil Requiemand this is a chance for many who wish to embark on the blind experiment. One thing we do know is that legacy characters will be making a return, whether it’s Resident Evil Outbreak or the main entrances to the franchise.
Ada Wong has been present in every resident Evil game that features Leon S. Kennedy so far and, while this is indeed Leon’s last game for a long time, his appearance is increasingly likely.
This is further reinforced by the ending of this short, where the armed forces move towards Raccoon City, with a voice ringing very familiar stating “Copy that. » Raccoon City is ours.
We know that Ada’s motivations and allegiances in the resident Evil games are vague, often working for shady corporations or figures like Albert Wesker. It’s not a stretch to suggest that it might just be Ada Wong speaking, which will have us wondering whose side she’s actually on when it launches on February 27.
Anyway, Resident Evil Requiem promises to be the most ambitious title in the franchise, with a moving story and a potential end to a saga that has lasted since 1998.
