The Ryder Cup was to be played in Bethpage Black last September, but the pandemic postponed it for a year.
But now, golf fans are finally in countdown in countdown until Team USA and Team Europe are fighting in Long Island.
Although golfers do not necessarily grow to win Ryder Cups (it is the majors that really constitute an inheritance), emotions come out every two September.

But for Luke Donald, the captain of the Europe team, the Ryder Cup has always mean something.
“To be honest, when I grew up, one of my first memories was to watch the Ryder Cup in 1987, which was the first time that Team Europe won on American soil, so it had a big impact on me when I was a child,” Donald told PK Press Club Digital in a recent interview.
“Some of my most special memories on golf courses are in the Ryder Cups, because you can share it with the guys, it’s such a fun week, the atmosphere that it creates. People who do not follow golf like having a big cup for what it represents. A massive focus for me, but I really appreciate the experience of doing it and trying to give the best opportunity team.”
The road team has not won Ryder Cup since the Miracle of the Europe team in Medinah in 2012, when they overcome a deficit of 10-4 on Sunday in single (the United States has not won on European soil since 1993). In five Ryder Cups since then, the home team won the Cup, all in a rather convincing manner.
The matches closest to this period were the five -point victories by Europe in 2014 in Gleneagles in Scotland and the victory in 2023 in Rome.
Donald knows that “New York is going to be noisy and ready”, but it’s his work to fight this.

“The biggest advantage is the support you get from the crowd. We see it in all sports. It was a big advantage in Rome, and it will be a drawback in New York. And I have to try to find ways to dissipate this,” he said.
The best way to do so, of course, is to build the best possible team. And although Liv Golf forced its wrinkles in the event, the plan is to have the hero of the Europe 2023 team and the double major champion Jon Rahm with Bethpage later this year.
“Jon is a member of the European tour, he is eligible to be chosen, and always one of our best players. Unless his form is radically taking off, I expect him to be there for us,” he said.
Brooks Koepka was a captain’s choice in 2023, thanks to his victory in the PGA championship and second place at the Masters. He qualified for little depending on the points alone, which is quite impressive, since VIV players trying for the American team can only earn points in the majors.
Koepka, however, was the only golfer liv of this year’s tournament. In fact, Donald became captain of Europe after Henrik Stenson was withdrawn from his role by the European tour after his defection in Liv.

LIV players are currently prohibited from the Presidents Cup, which is owned and operated by the PGA Tour.
