Celo migration to the layer of layer 2 is over, bringing a new era for the blockchain

The long-awaited plan of Celo’s blockchain to become an Ethereum Layer-2 channel has been completed, ending a process of almost two years, the main organizations behind the network said on Wednesday.

The transition puts an end to a long trip starting in July 2023 for the blockchain of layer 1 which included a community vote in July 2024 and a fierce competition, won by optimism, among the layers of layer 2 to convince the Celo ecosystem to build with their technology.

The improved network – like the other layers 2 – offers faster and cheaper transactions in addition to Maintreum maint. The blockchain is fueled by the OP OP battery, a customizable frame that allows developers to build 2 -layer -based networks based on optimism technology.

“You know, each time people ask us, we always recommend the OP battery, because the team was so useful and favorable,” said Marek Olszewski, CEO of Clabs, the main developer company supporting the Celo blockchain.

A plan for other layers 1

According to René Reisberg, CEO of the Celo Foundation, migration is the first of its kind in Ethereum ecosystem, and will probably be used as a plan for other EVM compatible blocks that seek to become a Layer-2 network.

“This path of not only turning a new channel, but in reality of the maintenance of this story, and having everyone on the new channel, while it is much more work, is great from a Celo point of view. It becomes of this kind of case study for Ethereum,” said RenĂ© Reinsberg, the president of the Celo Foundation, in an interview.

“Even simply based on the awareness that I have obtained from the other founders of L1 which resemble:” Hey, so what does it really do inside to go through this transition, and how much work is it and how do you think about it? “And so it seems that it is increased interest now,” added Reinsberg.

Despite the leaders of Ethereum having undergone backlash of the community because of the clumsy experience to operate between the plethora of the blockchains of layer 2, the price for the lag of ether (ETH) compared to other cryptocurrencies and the blockchain losing Mindshare and again talent to competitors like Solana, Reinsberg said that other places transition and reflection on the displacement of layer 2.

“While some of these short -term storms decrease and the feeling is starting to change, I think you will start to see a series of layer 1 which will probably be more public on this subject,” said Reisberg. “But we definitely see these first conversations occur.”

Celo’s new house

According to the team, Celo’s end users will not notice a big difference in their configurations and will always be able to access the main features such as SocialConnect, a protocol that connects the phone numbers of users or x handles to their Celo Wallet addresses to make payments. However, there are changes in the protocol.

“The responsibilities of the validators have increased to the exploitation of the consensus protocol to temporarily execute the nodes of Community RPC, with rewards of Validator now distributed via the execution of the intelligent contract rather than in times,” the team said in a press release. “In addition, the sequencing of transactions – previously determined by the validators performing the consensus protocol – will initially be managed by a centralized sequencer, with a roadmap in place for the transition to a decentralized sequencing in the future.”
