Chappell Roan is heavily criticized on social networks after a security incident with a young fan in Brazil, daughter of footballer Jorginho, and the mayor of Rio de Janeiro himself has taken action.
The 27-year-old pop superstar allegedly sent a security guard to the girl who was smiling at him at a hotel, and shouted at the mother and child until the young fan was reduced to tears.
Although the Good luck, baby! The hitmaker later defended herself on social media, saying she was unaware of the altercation nor did she send a guard. She is now banned from the Brazilian music festival Todo Mundo No Rio.
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, attacked X and wrote in Portuguese: “I want to say that as long as I am in charge of our city, this young woman will never perform in Todo Mundo no Rio!”
The music festival is planned for later this year and is described as the world’s biggest dance floor, but Roan will not be performing there.
The latest public incident follows Roan’s recent altercation with paparazzi in Paris, which also became a subject of heated debate earlier this month.
Dividing fans and critics, the singer drew equal criticism and applause for drawing clear boundaries with fans.
However, the incident with Jorginho’s daughter still disappointed fans and they urged Roan to take responsibility.
