Charli XCX thought her label might drop her because of her hit 2024 album Kid.
The 32-year-old singer spoke with Gwyneth Paltrow about the actress Goop podcast about his state of mind while recording the album.
“I actually made this record thinking, ‘OK, I’m just going to make this one for me,'” she told Gwyneth.
“Maybe my label will drop me and that’s fine.” That was a bit of the state of mind I found myself in,” said the Speed training added the hitmaker.
The album, released on June 7, 2024, took the number one spot in the UK and reached the top 10 in 14 other countries, garnering nine Grammy nominations and winning three.
Following the release of Kid album, Charli’s electro-pop tracks dominated the charts and even inspired a viral Apple dance trend, with fans embracing the “Brat summer” cultural movement.
In March, she conquered the Brit Awards, winning five categories, including songwriter of the year.
She also won album of the year, artist of the year, dance number and song of the year for her track. Guess with Billie Eilish.
Her next album, the singer said, will be “inherently” different from Brat.
“I really like working in contrast. I think whatever I do next will be inherently different from Kid because that’s what feels natural,” she said.
“I’m exploring a lot of things with strings at the moment, which I’m really enjoying and I’ve never really worked in that area before,” said the Apple said the singer.
Additionally, the singer’s new career direction includes acting roles in Faces of death And The gallery ownerwhich is already in post-production.
Charli XCX will also star and co-produce The momentan A24 film starring Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette and Kylie Jenner.
