To celebrate its centenary, Bang & Olufsen is producing five very exclusive Atelier Edition products. The first of these was the Beolab 90 Titan Edition, which took the iconic Beolab 90 speaker back to basics and was only revealed last month. And now there are two new Atelier Editions, the Beolab 90 Phantom Edition and the Beolab 90 Mirage Edition.
They look incredible – and the specs and (so far secret) price are just as incredible, as these are limited edition 8,200W speakers that already cost a lot of money.
Bang & Olufsen Phantom and Mirage Editions: main features
Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, but you can expect to shell out a six-figure sum for these extremely powerful and beautiful speakers: they’re towers of power with supercar price tags. The standard Beolab 90 costs £141,000 / €167,200 (around $188,365 / AU$283,300).
The Phantom Edition features black PVD acoustic mesh with “holographic visual depth”; a carbon fiber face mask, shoulder plates and base panels; and a bead-blasted aluminum frame with precise trim details. It looks like some kind of evil death robot – Bang & Olufsen says it has “the power of darkness” – and it’s absolutely stunning in a stealth bomber or killer drone way.
While the Phantom Edition is amazing, it’s the more playful and slightly less scary Mirage Edition that really grabs the attention.
The Mirage Edition is covered in an iridescent fabric ranging from sapphire to magenta, and Bang & Olufsen describes it as “a celebration of color.” It features five driver-graded anodized aluminum pieces with wave-textured surfaces to deliver “a chromatic crescendo.” I think it’s absolutely beautiful, like a huge stag beetle.
Under the new finishes, you’ll find the same Beolab 90 speaker with its 18 custom-made drivers, massive amplification and advanced beamforming technology.
These two editions mark the second and third releases of the five editions of the Atelier. I can’t wait to see what the next two will be like.
