Six Chinese nationals who direct companies in Karachi withdrew a harassment complaint against local police after receiving insurance from provincial officials that their concerns are the subject of an investigation, according to the media.
The men had initially filed the complaint, claiming that their movements were limited by the police under the pretext of security, which had a negative impact on their companies.
In response, the Sindh provincial government said that any grievance was to be discussed by the Chinese Embassy rather than by the courts.
They also assured that the case would be examined. The defense lawyer for men, Rehman Mahsud, confirmed that his customers were satisfied with government insurance and chose to withdraw the petition.
Under the Pakistani law, Chinese nationals must inform the police before traveling so that an escort can be organized. This directive was put in place after the death of two Chinese nationals in a bombardment in Karachi last year.
The Baloutch Liberation Army claimed the responsibility of the attack, accusing China of exploiting the mineral resources of the province.
China has repeatedly urged Pakistan to improve the security of its workers in the country, because many are involved in projects related to the initiative of the belt and the road to China, which finances infrastructure developments in large scale in Pakistan.
