- Google uses AI to protect itself from scams in Chrome, Search and Android
- AI can analyze and distill data to detect completely new scams
- Google claims that it already notes positive results of change
If there is one thing you learn by browsing the internet, it is because the scams are everywhere. Even the most eagle experts may be victims, with incalculable sums that get lost in these harmful regimes each year.
This does not mean that the situation is hopeless, and Google now takes the fighting to the crooks using artificial intelligence (AI). According to a recent company’s blog article, there are three areas where Google uses AI against scams: Chrome, Google Search and Android.
In Chrome, Google deploys its gemini nano model on large languages (LLM) to provide an improved protective mode to users. Google says that “keeps users twice as sheltered from phisse and other scams compared to our standard protection mode”.
AI does the fact by distilling his knowledge of scams to analyze suspect websites and alerting threat users, even if the dangers are new and have not been seen before.
Regarding research, Google says that AI “helps us detect and block hundreds of millions of arcmal results every day”, with 20 times more fraudulent pages captured than before Google has called on AI.
Google claims that this approach has reduced scams linked to airlines appearing in research up to 80%, for example.
Ai on Android
Although many of these improvements are multiplatform changes that will be observed on different devices, there are also Android exclusive adjustments that are wisely against scams.
An example is website notifications on Android phones. If you have enabled a scam website to send you notifications (without realizing that it is a scam), you could be crossed by fraudulent alerts that try to steal your data. In cases like this, Google has just launched warnings powered by AI specifically for Chrome on Android.
When a suspicious notification is detected, Chrome on Android will warn you that the alert could be a scam. You can then deactivate the notifications of the website in question, or consult the alert itself, how much you can unsubscribe or always allow alerts if you do not think they are harmful.
There are also upcoming improvements on Google Messages and Phone by Google. These detect the current scams which begin innocently, but quickly evolve in dangerous situations, which could be difficult for traditional methods of protection of scams.
Whatever the device you use, it seems that you can benefit from the recent deployment of Google AI to fight against scams. With bad players constantly improving their tactics, AI’s ability to quickly analyze data trains could save you fraudsters.
