- Report Finds AI-Driven Threats Evolving Faster Than Businesses Can Keep Up
- Organizations use countless dashboards and security tools, adding to the confusion

Faced with rising cyber threats, two in three security leaders (65%) fear being blamed in the event of a major breach, which would make this role less desirable and could even leave many companies struggling to fulfill their duties.
A new study from Panaseer found that the average cost of a cyber incident per affected business is $14 million per year, which equates to 73% of their security budget – a budget that they clearly failed in the first place, by becoming victims of attacks.
With systems becoming more complex, Panaseer found that three out of four attacks exploited multiple control failures, with nearly two-thirds reporting that attackers bypassed controls that they believed should have prevented breaches.
The CISO role is no longer as attractive
The landscape is further amplified by the rise of AI-based threats: more than three-quarters (77%) fear these are evolving faster than teams can respond.
Currently, organizations use an average of 61 security tools and 58 dashboards, conducting or responding to 28 audits per year that take an average of eight days to prepare.
“The complexity of the IT landscape, the proliferation of cyber tools and the rapidly evolving threat environment, compounded by the increasing demands of regulators, make it very difficult to implement even basic hygiene,” noted CEO Jonthan Gill.
Although 77% of respondents believe traditional tools are inadequate for today’s threat landscape, it appears more isn’t better either: many report costly delays in audits or fail to demonstrate the effectiveness of controls to executives.
“For CISOs, it’s a question of water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink,” adds Gill. Panaseer calls for widespread simplification, starting with a “single, trusted source of field data” and dashboards that speak the language of stakeholders and auditors.
“Without it, security teams cannot track controls and progress; businesses cannot understand the risks; and businesses will continue to lose millions from preventable breaches. »
