A group of civil society members also challenged the 26th constitutional amendment which brought major changes to the country’s judicial system. The petition filed by lawyer Faisal Siddiqi claims that the amendment undermines essential features of the Constitution by compromising judicial independence and the trichotomy of power. He submits that the petition cannot be heard by the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court constituted in view of the amendment as "no one can be judge in his own case".
