CJP Afridi meets the IMF delegation to discuss judicial reforms

A delegation of six members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met the Yahya Afridi chief in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Express News said on Tuesday.

According to sources, the meeting focused on the Pakistan judicial system and potential reforms. The chief judge informed the IMF team about legal improvements and current governance disputes.

Meanwhile, the head of the opposition of the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, had also announced that his party would present concerns concerning the general elections of 2024 and the 26th constitutional amendment before the IMF delegation.

“We will present the whole question of elections before the IMF delegation,” said Ayub. “We will also highlight the problems caused by the 26th amendment,” he said.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the CEO (MD) of the IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, will meet today in Dubai three weeks before the planned interviews of March 3 for the secondary loan tranche of 1 billion Dollars.

The meeting is before a crucial examination for the next $ 1 billion loan tranche.

Government and diplomatic sources have told L’Express PK Press Club that the meeting would take place on the sidelines of the summit of world governments in Dubai. Pakistan asked for the meeting.

It will be the third meeting between PM Sharif and Georgieva in the last 10 months. The Prime Minister left on Monday for an official two -day visit to the United Arab Emirates (water) to attend the summit.
