The chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, approved a new wastewater and drainage system for the major cities of the province, reported Express News.
This initiative marks the first time that a full sewer and water drainage plan is implemented for all the major cities of Punjab.
The chief minister asked the authorities to create detailed plans for 189 cities with populations greater than 100,000. The new system will include improvements in wastewater, water drainage, rainwater management, repairs roads and other essential development projects.
As part of the plan, the government has decided to establish bypass for the first time and wastewater elimination stations.
In addition, storage tanks will be built for immediate drainage of rainwater, stored water being reused for irrigation and other uses.
The plan also includes the strategic installation of water supply and water supply pipelines at appropriate distances to avoid contamination. Clean water batteries will be separated from the sewer lines to maintain water quality.
In addition, 30 kilometers of roads in each provincial district will undergo construction and repair. During a special meeting, the chief minister also approved the proposal to create model villages in Punjab, with immediate steps for the implementation of the Punjab development program.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that the Punjab proper program will benefit 150 million residents in the province, addressing the longtime problems caused by inadequate sewer systems.
She assured that the new system will help protect the roads of wear and provide better public services throughout the province.
