CME Group Expands Crypto Derivatives with Spot-Listed XRP and Solana Futures

CME Group has launched spot-listed futures contracts for and Solana expanding its range of crypto derivatives designed to trade closer to real-time market prices.

The new contracts mirror the structure of CME’s existing Spot-Quoted Bitcoin. and the ether eventually. Unlike traditional futures contracts, which often trade at a premium or discount due to financing costs, Spot-Quoted contracts directly track the spot price. Funding adjustments are processed separately at checkout.

“We have seen strong demand for our currently spot-listed Bitcoin and Ether futures contracts, with over 1.3 million contracts traded since their launch in June, and we are pleased to add XRP and SOL to our offering,” said Giovanni Vicioso, global head of cryptocurrency products at CME Group, in a press release.

These are CME’s smallest crypto contracts to date, aimed at active participants who prefer to trade on spot market terms without managing contract expirations or renewals, Vicioso added.

Since their launch in June, spot-listed Bitcoin and Ether contracts have gained momentum, with over 1.3 million contracts traded and an average daily volume of 11,300 contracts, with a record 60,700 contracts traded on November 24.

The contracts are listed on CME and CBOT and are available alongside major stock index futures.

At the same time, CME has activated Trading at Settlement (TAS) for XRP, SOL and their respective Micro futures. This feature allows traders to execute futures contracts with a spread up to the 4:00 p.m. ET settlement price, before that price is known.

TAS is often used to manage risks related to crypto ETFs, particularly during net asset value (NAV) creation or redemption. It also allows block trades and anonymous order book activity through CME Globex, providing flexibility in how and when traders execute.

The move comes after CME Group began allowing its users to trade options on daily, monthly and quarterly expiring SOL, Micro SOL, XRP and Micro XRP futures in October.
