Coas Munir and Chinas FM discuss security

Marshal of the army chief (COAS), Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Islamabad on Friday morning, with a regional characteristic and a fight against terrorism on the agenda, according to a statement published by the wing of military media.

FM Wang Yi is in Islamabad during an official visit to attend the sixth strategic dialogue of Pakistan-Chin on Thursday. The dialogue ended with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ishaq Dar and FM Wang Yi laying the basics on issues such as the Chinese-Pakistani Economic corridor (CPEC) 2.0 and the reaffirmation of the commitment in strong bilateral links.

The Chinese FM also met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari.

“I reiterated the Pakistna Resolve company to further strengthen our strategic cooperative partnership all times and underlined the central role of CPEC in the conduct of our socio-economic progress and the improvement of regional connectivity,” wrote Prime Minister Shehbaz on X (formerly Twitter) after their meeting.

The public inter-service public relations (ISPR) published a declaration on the Coas meeting with the Chinese FM. “The two parties reaffirmed their determination to strengthen strategic partnership and improve coordination during regional and international forums.”

The two parties engaged in dialogue have focused on the regional characteristic, the fight against terrorism and questions of mutual interest.

The meeting ended with Wang Yi reiterating the “firm support of China to the sovereignty and development of Pakistan”.

Coas Munir and FM Wang Yi were separated by establishing “a common commitment to advance peace, stability and prosperity in the region”.

Last month, Coas Munir was in Beijing, where Chinese leaders congratulated the role of the Pakistani army to ensure peace in the region. They declared the Pakistani army a “cornerstone of resilience” and a vital contributor to stability in the region.
