Colin Jost was set up by Michael Che on SNL again, a year after the couple sparked an outcry for comparing Scarlett Johansson to a roast beef sandwich.
The time has come Saturday Night Live annual Christmas episode on December 20 with a special segment called “Weekend Update” joke exchange.
“Tonight is our Christmas show, and we have a tradition where Colin and I read jokes to each other that neither of us has ever seen,” Che told viewers.
Jost protested, however, saying he didn’t think they were making the joke this year. “And you know I didn’t write any jokes for you,” he said, prompting Che to respond: “Well, I guess you’ll just have to read mine.”
After delivering several jokes, Jost landed on one that was aimed squarely at his wife of five years. “New research shows that millions of women are leaving the workforce due to menopause. Which means I only have a few years left on my gravy train,” he read with a laugh as a photo of Johansson appeared on the screen.
“My girlfriend is already telling me: ‘Colin, I’m hot. Colin, I’m sweating.’ B****, you’re having a hot flash,” Jost continued. He then followed up with another punchline: “But don’t worry about me, I have a replacement. They don’t call Wednesday hump day for nothing.”
The moment echoes last year’s viral joke, when Jost delivered another Che-written move that left Johansson visibly stunned backstage.
Looking back on that moment earlier this year, Johansson admitted: “It was so vulgar. I just can’t believe they went there.”
