Bestselling author Colleen Hoover is clearing the air on the much-talked-about ending to the 2024 film adaptation of her bestselling novel. It ends with us – and his answer might surprise fans.
In a recent conversation with THE UNITED STATES TODAYthe 46-year-old writer reflected in the adaptation starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Despite online debates and fan theories about whether the film should have handled its ending differently, Hoover insists she’s more than satisfied.
“These actors and the director did a great job and I couldn’t have been happier with this film,” she said.
Hoover also recognized that bringing this emotionally charged story to the big screen wasn’t exactly a walk in the park.
“It was a difficult book to adapt to the subject and I think they handled it very sensitively. So I don’t think I would have changed anything.”
In other words: no request for a Director’s Cut from the author herself.
The novelist added that the experience has not shaken her confidence in book-film adaptations. If anything, it made her more curious about what’s going on behind the camera.
“experience more” the filmmaking process, she said, hinting that she would like to be more involved in future projects.
Meanwhile, Hoover’s stories continue to move toward Hollywood. His 2022 bestseller Reminders of him just hit screens, and another fan favorite is already in the queue: Truth is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
It’s safe to say that Hoover’s cinematic universe is only getting more diverse.
