College football fans took to social media to express their frustrations with the CBS broadcast for interrupting longtime football announcer Gary Danielson’s final farewell.

Danielson’s last game was a thriller, as Duke beat Arizona State 42-39 on Wednesday in the Sun Bowl. However, the end of the match went much better than the end of the broadcast.

The show paid tribute to Danielson, showing a collage of photos from his nearly 20 years with the network. At the end, the cameras cut to Danielson in the booth alongside his broadcast partners and crew.

As Danielson thanked them, he was abruptly interrupted.

“We’re going to have a good time tonight. Look, one more thing, it’s sometimes – you can say, how do you get up? This guy right here –” Danielson said before being interrupted, as CBS went to commercial.

College football fans have criticized CBS for cutting off the longtime broadcaster.

Danielson announced he would retire at the end of the season in March.

“I have discussed the timing of this moment with CBS Sports executives over the past several years and we felt it was important that I remain with the team during our transition to the Big Ten. As we enter our second full season of Big Ten football and my 20th at CBS Sports, the timing seems right,” Danielson said in a statement.

Danielson played 11 seasons in the NFL before beginning his broadcasting career. He played quarterback and spent eight seasons with the Detroit Lions and three with the Cleveland Browns.
