Former Kent State coach Kenni Burns took more than $ 100,000 in a booster, according to an investigation.
This booster was also a school seller. Burns was put on administrative leave in March and was dismissed on April 11.
Kent’s state has never publicly given a reason why Burns was put on administrative or licensed leave.

An independent survey of an external law firm revealed that Burns had received six loan figures from Michael Awad, according to Akron Beacon Journal.
The loans began in 2023, after Burns said that his house had flooded and was financially difficult because he had not sold his house in Minnesota. Burns began to pay the $ 109,000 in loans he had borrowed from Halloween 2023, and paid them with nine checks over 14 months, according to the survey.
There was no evidence that Burns paid interest in loans.

While Burns received Awad loans, Awad helped him open a credit card with Hometown Bank. In 2024, Burns did not make the payments minimum and exceeded the limit of the credit card and was continued by the bank, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
The proceedings of the bank against Burns was settled once the former Kent State coach paid what he had to.
The loans that Burns have received may have violated the laws on state ethics, which prevent state employees from receiving boosters.
