Collegial basketball: Creighton-Uconn Big East ends with the fight

The emotions ran at the top Friday evening at Madison Square Garden while Creighton was heading for the Big East final during the two national champions in Uconn.

The Bluejays crossed a victory and were able to dribble the ball in the last seconds.

With the Bluejays of the second seeded leading 69-62, they obtained a defensive rebound with less than 10 seconds to play, and the coach of the Huskies Dan Hurley pointed out that his team lets the chronometer exhaust without ahead.

However, Jamiya Neal took off the left key on the left key line for a slam with 1.5 seconds to play and hung on the edge for a traction. After her skirmish with Diarra, Neal agitated his arms to pull the Creighton fans in the closed window crowds.

The goalkeeper of the Huskies Hassan Diarra pushed Neal into the chest and seemed to compete with his fists during a fraction of a second while the two were face to face.

The center of Creighton Ryan Kalkbrenner separated them by repelling Neal while the whistles were blowing and the players broadcast on the benches at the Madison Square Garden.

The order restored fairly quickly, but the emotions were still tense after the match.

“I mean, they were already standing with seven seconds,” said Diarra. “He didn’t want to dribble the ball. I went for a fantasy dunk. I just felt that it was disrespectful for the basketball game.”

Neal admitted that he was “taken in the emotions of the game” and apologized.

The coach of Hurley and Bluejays, Greg McDermott, were already approaching each other along the touch to shake hands when Neal took off for his dunk. McDermott seemed to apologize to Hurley immediately after, and once again the end of the match.

Creighton and Uconn have already had their beef this year. Hurley mocked Creighton fans last month after the Huskies won a victory on the road, showing goodbye to the crowd and shouted: “Two rings!”

Last year, Hurley also threatened to “eliminate” a Creighton fan.
