Collegial basketball: UNC loses after a free-callégoric launch canceled

The North Carolina was on the heels (without puns) to finish a return of 24 points against Duke the best classified in the ACC semi-finals, but an expensive error ruined their chances.

Ven-Allen Lubin was on the line with 4.1 seconds to have a chance to link the match, and he launched his frank.

However, it was canceled by a lane violation.

The referees whistled on Jae’lyn Withers while Duke, without Cooper Flagg, celebrated. The Blue Devils were able to reverse a pair of free throws, and Lubin missed his three points to send the match in overtime, giving Duke a 74-71 victory.

While the violation was clear, many fans were upset by the appeal.

“You do not call them in these situations,” said a user on X.

“Look how excited the referee was to enter the game and decide on the game on an absolutely meaningless violation. Total disgrace,” added another.

Wrote one more, “as usual, referees do their thing.”

But a rarity occurred because many other fans came to defense officials.

“Dude, if it’s a violation in the first why is it not now? And it was clear as the day,” said a post.

“I guess you could just say that I have somehow deceived the blow,” said Withers. “I was trying to make sure I collapsed hard to get a rebound in case he has missed.”

But UNC refused to blame the whistle on the loss.

“It was much more to blame than a lane violation,” said Lubin. “We made a ton of mistakes throughout the match. We were in this position trying to get out of it and get out with a victory or reach overtime.”

“We all made mistakes in this match,” said RJ Davis. “I am behind J-Wit. He has all our support, and we would not be in this position without J-Wit. I want him to look at his head. We all make mistakes in this game. It’s not just for him.”

Head coach Hubert Davis also supported his player.

“The guys, we are not here without J-Wit,” said Davis.

The hopes of the UNC tournament now seem to be over. A victory under the ACC would have won an automatic offer, but the loss of semi-final with a regular season less than normal may not be sufficient.
