- 51% of British companies consider the sovereignty of “crucial” data, report complaints
- Almost equal measures see it as a burden or as an asset, OVHCLOUD finds
- Access to data, handling, storage and portability are all advantages
New research has revealed the growing need for data sovereignty, influenced by ongoing geopolitical tensions and market surveys on the market.
A report by the OVHCLOUD Cloud Computing giant has revealed that half (51%) of British companies now consider data sovereignty as a crucial part of their data management strategies.
In addition, three out of four computer decision -makers (77%) now say that data sovereignty is more important than it was three years ago.
Data sovereignty is at the heart of customer confidence
Exactly why companies are so interested in data sovereignty, however – two out of five (40%) see it as a compliance problem, but more than a third (36%) said it involved access to data, handling and storage. 28% additional said that sovereignty is linked to data portability.
The sovereignty of the data has gained popularity in recent years after the battle of America with China and surveys on the domination of American hyperscalers in the world cloud markets – In 2024, AWS confirmed that it would support the sovereignty of the sovereignty of European data, by choosing Germany as the first location.
“Having a robust data sovereignty strategy means that you know who controls your data, where it is, who has access to it, and what regulations are submitted,” noted Matt Tebay, multi-cloud ovhcloud evangelist.
Of the 500 computer decision -makers interviewed, 41% said it was just something they had to comply, however, 42% of added data sovereignty is important for their customers, and therefore an asset for their business.
“Organizations are increasingly achieved that it is not simply a loading and a regulatory burden, but can strengthen customer confidence, improve governance and provide a safety and transparency layer To customers, “added Tebay.
“Obviously, the intersection of customer confidence, technology, regulations and commercial considerations can make a difficult course, but it is important and like all trips, the first step is the most important. “”
