Fresh off the 2026 Oscars, Conan O’Brien had one more performance to give, and this time the subject was marriage.
Speaking to Vanity FairAt the annual post-Oscars party alongside his wife Liza Powel O’Brien, the 62-year-old actor shared the unlikely secret behind nearly 25 years of marital bliss: separate bathrooms.
“We were saved because we moved into a house that had a bathroom for me and a bathroom for you,” he said. Vanity Fair.
“I think it really saves [a relationship]”.
He’s been married to Liza since 2002 and he hasn’t hesitated to double down on his theory. “It is said that it goes a long way in perpetuating a marriage,” he added. “I think that’s the key, the key.”
Liza, 55, gave that claim her own quiet seal of approval.
“I don’t hate it,” she said, which Conan immediately translated for the play. “You don’t like her, which means there are two negatives. She likes it!”
The couple met in 1999 while Liza was working as a copywriter at an advertising agency, and Conan came to film a segment for Late Night with Conan O’Brien on the worst advertisers.
He, according to his own words, left immediately. “Somewhere in the NBC vault there’s a picture of me literally falling in love with my wife on camera,” he told Piers Morgan in 2012.
